Since 2011, ten children have been given certification by the Kenyan Industrial Training Authority for competencies in skills development areas of mechanics, carpentry, hospitality, hairdressing, beauty therapy, electrical, and welding.
All the youths are now self-sufficient and living a life of dignity, some now have young families of their own.
Six students are in final year of studies in areas of masonry and construction, electrical applications, hairdressing, and beauty therapy.
Selected children undergo a three-month Vocational Preparation Training Programme prior to enrolment in a two-year residential Skills Training under the direction of the Kenyan Industrial Training Authority. On satisfactory completion of the course and examination, students are awarded a Grade 111 certificate of competency in their field of study.
PROTECT continues to support, mentor, and monitor the trained youths during the first six months of their attachments and provide them with food and accommodation. Post-trained youths act as mentors for the students in training.
During training Parental/Guardian Training is provided by PROTECT focusing on parental responsibility and consequences of child labour.
